Launched in 2016, the Maryland Multi-Housing Association Service Training Academy (STA 2.0) is an innovative workforce development program designed to connect individuals to high-demand careers in apartment maintenance.
In just 60 days, STA 2.0 provides a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on, real-world training that equips students with the essential skills needed to succeed in the multifamily housing industry.
What You’ll Learn
Students are exposed to a full spectrum of maintenance fundamentals, including:
- Carpentry
- Electrical
- Appliance Repair
- Plumbing
- HVAC
- Apartment Make-Ready Process
Upon successful completion of the training, the STA team helps students prepare for the next step: employment. We actively connect our students with interviews at reputable property management companies committed to hiring and developing new talent.

Our Goals
- To provide high-quality vocational training in apartment maintenance at no cost to the student
- To recruit and train individuals who are eager to build meaningful careers in the rental housing industry
- To support job placement for graduates by connecting them with trusted employers in the multifamily sector
- To create a pipeline of skilled talent for the Maryland multifamily industry, where qualified maintenance professionals are in high demand
- To train a minimum of 48 students annually, ensuring continued access to opportunity and a consistent flow of new talent into the industry
